Abstract

Which is the role of the student body within the teaching-learning process in the university?

There could be many ways of improving the quality of teaching: the introduction of changes in the means of developing and managing the educational process, the evaluation of the teaching institutions, processes and products, the influence of the market and the new methods of financing are some of them, but we believe that the first steps come from the techniques of the Total Quality Management. Provided that this philosophy is based in the human participation and being this the main resort of our organizations, only a few will be doubtful about the fact that it constitutes one of the most suitable mechanisms, as it has been confirmed in international research. Therefore, this article deals with the introduction of changes in the way of managing the teaching-learning process through the use of techniques of the Total Quality Management (GCT) in the university field.

Resumen

Las formas de mejorar la calidad de la enseñanza pueden ser muchas. Puede modificarse la forma de desarrollar y gestionar el proceso educativo, y también el modo en que se evalúan los centros, procesos y productos. Hay que tener en cuenta la influencia del mercado y las nuevas formas de financiación. Sin embargo, creemos que el primer paso debe ser la introducción de las técnicas de Gestión de la Calidad Total. Dado que esta filosofía se basa en la participación humana y éste es el principal recurso de nuestras organizaciones, a pocos les quedarán dudas acerca de la conveniencia de este procedimiento, que ya ha sido contrastado en investigaciones efectuadas fuera de nuestro país. Por tanto, este artículo trata acerca de la forma de introducir cambios en la forma de gestionar --a través de la utilización de las técnicas de Gestión de la Calidad Total (GCT)-- el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje en el ámbito universitario.
