Abstract

Classes among the corn-stubble

This article presents some of the educational activities carried on in rural areas between 1939 and 1975. These years saw the emergence in Spain of numerous institutions intended to free country dwellers from the trap of backwardness and cultural, human and occupational poverty.Salto de línea This educational initiative was carried on by a handful of men and women driven by faith in their own desires and hopes that the progress of country people and of the nation as a whole could only be achieved through culture, know-how and the professionalisation of the rural community.Salto de línea In the five chapters of the article we give a necessarily brief review of the initiatives undertaken by the most significant public institutions. The initiatives of numerous other private establishments must await a later occasion.Salto de línea The article closes with a summary of the teaching, the educational styles and other activities carried out by the educators from the various institutions who devoted their energies among the stubble fields to teaching the basic rudiments of literacy and sowing the first seeds of agricultural instruction on Spanish soil.

Resumen

Presentamos en este artículo algunas de las acciones educativas que se llevaron a cabo en el medio rural entre 1939 y 1975. Durante estos años aparecieron en nuestro país numerosas instituciones que intentaban liberar del atraso y la miseria cultural, humana y profesional a los habitantes del mundo rural.Salto de línea Protagonistas de esta acción educativa fueron un puñado de hombres y mujeres que, con la fuerza que les daba trabajar por lo que creían, proyectaron sus ilusiones y esperanzas, proclamando que el progreso del campo y de la nación debía venir de la mano de la cultura, la técnica y la profesionalización de los habitantes del medio rural.Salto de línea A lo largo de cinco apartados, necesariamente sintéticos, apuntamos algunas de las acciones emprendidas por las instituciones públicas más significativas, dejando las propuestas de otros muchos establecimientos privados para otra ocasión.Salto de línea Terminamos nuestro artículo sintetizando la labor docente, los estilos educativos y los trabajos que realizaron los profesionales de la educación que durante esta época en las distintas instituciones se dedicaron, en aulas entre rastrojos, a llevar los primeros rudimentos alfabetizadores y a sembrar las primeras semillas de instrucción agrícola en el suelo patrio.
