El estudio de la alta capacidad intelectual en España: Análisis de la situación actual

Resumen
Aunque la investigación en el campo de la alta capacidad intelectual tiene una larga tradición, este tema ha despertado un renovado interés a nivel internacional en las últimas décadas debido al creciente número de argumentos que apuntan hacia el impacto que tiene promover el capital humano en el desarrollo intelectual, cultural, social y económico de las naciones. El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar la situación actual del estudio de la alta capacidad intelectual en España. A través de una revisión de las investigaciones más relevantes de los últimos años en este campo, primero se presentan las distintas variables cognitivas (por ejemplo, la creatividad o los estilos cognitivos) y no cognitivas (como el ajuste y la adaptación social) que se han incorporado recientemente al estudio de la alta capacidad intelectual y que han contribuido a la elaboración de un retrato más amplio y completo de las características que definen a los alumnos de alta capacidad intelectual en España. A continuación, se comenta el proceso progresivo de diseño y adaptación de técnicas e instrumentos alternativos a los test tradicionales de inteligencia para identificar a estos alumnos en nuestro contexto y que ha equipado durante los últimos años a investigadores y educadores con nuevas herramientas para identificar el amplio espectro de la alta capacidad intelectual. En tercer lugar, se pone de manifiesto la necesidad de seguir investigando sobre la eficacia y adecuación de distintas técnicas y estrategias educativas para la respuesta educativa para con los alumnos con alta capacidad intelectual. Finalmente, se identifican las aproximaciones conceptuales que se utilizan en nuestro país en la actualidad para estudiar la alta capacidad intelectual desde una perspectiva científica y se discuten algunas direcciones que podrían guiar los estudios que están por venir.

Abstract
Although research in the field of high intellectual ability has a long tradition, the issue has sparked renewed international interest in recent decades due to the growing number of arguments that point out the impact that the promotion of human capital has on the intellectual, cultural, social and economic development of nations. The aim of this paper is to analyze the current situation of the research on high intellectual ability in Spain. Through a review of research conducted recently in this field, this study first introduces the different cognitive variables (e.g., creativity, cognitive styles) and non-cognitive variables (e.g., adjustment and social adaptation) that have been incorporated during the past years to the study of high intellectual ability and have contributed to the development of a broader, more comprehensive portrait of the defining characteristics of high-ability students in Spain. Second, this study discusses the ongoing process of design and adaptation of techniques and instruments that pose an alternative to the traditional intelligence tests used to identify high-ability students in our context; these alternatives have equipped researchers and educators with new tools for identifying the broad spectrum of high intellectual ability. Third, the study highlights the need for further research on the effectiveness and appropriateness of various techniques and strategies in achieving educational response in high ability students. Lastly, the conceptual approaches currently used to study high ability in Spain from a scientific perspective are identified, and some directions that could guide the studies to come are discussed.
