Presentación. De la Selectividad a la Prueba de Acceso a la Universidad: pasado, presente y un futuro no muy lejano

Resumen
Este artículo trata de revisar la sección de idiomas de la Prueba de Acceso a la Universidad (PAU), tanto desde una perspectiva social e histórica como desde un análisis de necesidades para poder mostrar que existe una demanda y que hace falta explorar y redefinir la PAU, tanto su realización, como su constructo u otros factores. Para ello, trataremos de prever de qué manera debería llevarse a cabo la nueva sección de lengua extranjera de la PAU en 2012 (o en los años siguientes). Las implicaciones de este artículo pueden orientar la agenda de investigación presente y futura, y mostrarse eficaces para obtener una idea clara de cómo y por qué el Ministerio de Educación español sugiere cambios para obtener un examen más comunicativo. El artículo comienza por presentar la necesidad de integrar nuevas tareas de carácter oral en la PAU basándose en estudios realizados en la primera década del siglo XXI. Estos estudios tienen como base algunas de las realidades asociadas al examen desde el principio de la última década del siglo XX. El artículo también muestra que existe una disociación entre los métodos y modelos de enseñanza en España y el constructo del examen. Para ello enfatiza la distinta importancia que se le ha dado a las lenguas extranjeras en los distintos sistemas educativos de los últimos 50 años en España. Respecto a la sección de idiomas de la PAU, el artículo muestra la necesidad de revisar varios aspectos: (1) actualizar su investigación, (2) realizar (o publicitar) el estudio que supuestamente apoya el cambio en el constructo de la PAU, (3) analizar sus implicaciones prospectivas en el aula, en la universidad y en los estudiantes mismos, y (4) examinar su constructo y su forma de realización. Este artículo sirve como presentación a un monográfico que se centrará en estos aspectos.

Abstract
Introduction. From Selectividad to the University Admission Examination: Past, Present and a Not-Very-Distant Future
This paper reviews the foreign language section of the Spanish University Admission Examination (PAU) both from a socio-historical perspective and through a needs analysis in order to show that there is a demand and need to explore and redefine the PAU in new ways, addressing features such as the delivery system and construct redefinition. The authors attempt to foresee how the new foreign language section of the PAU should be implemented in 2012 (or consecutive years). The implications of this paper can orient the present and future research agenda and may also prove efficient in providing a clear idea of how and why the Spanish Ministry of Education suggests changes towards a more-communicative test. The paper begins by presenting the need to integrate new speaking tasks in the PAU based on several studies done in the first decade of the 21st century. These studies are also based on some of the realities associated with the exam since the beginning of the 20th century. The paper also shows that there is dissociation between Spanish teaching methods and models and the test construct. To demonstrate this, stress is laid on the differences in the importance given to foreign languages in the different educational systems used in Spain over the last 50 years. Some aspects of the foreign language section of the PAU are shown to need revision: (1) the research needs to be updated; (2) the study that supposedly supports the change in the PAU needs to be performed (or released); (3) the prospective implications in the classroom, at university and in students themselves need to be analyzed; and (4) the test construct and the issue of delivery need to be addressed. Lastly, this paper also serves as the introduction to a monograph that focuses on these topics.
