Abstract

The "Ratio Studiorum" of 1599. A singular educational system.

It is the four hundred anniversary of the definitive approval of the document known as the "Ratio Studiorum" that includes the educational system of the Society of Jesus. The objective of this article is to participate in this commemoration, as well as to comment a singular contribution, elaborated in Europe during the years of the Renaissance Humanism and that, after successive adaptations and revisions, has reached our times. Limited as any article is, a brief analysis of the educational concept, the curriculum, the peculiar methodology, the duties of teachers, their relationship with the students and the school organization are made. The celebration of this fourth centenary invites to timely reflections about the past which serve as an starting point to future performances.

Resumen

Se cumplen cuatrocientos años de la aprobación definitiva del documento conocido como Ratio Studiorum que comprende el sistema educativo de la Compañía de Jesús. Hacernos eco de esta conmemoración es el objetivo del presente artículo a la vez que conocer una aportación singular que se elabora en Europa en el contexto del Humanismo Renacentista y que tras sucesivas adaptaciones y revisiones ha llegado hasta nosotros. Con los límites que cualquier artículo impone, se analizan brevemente la concepción educativa, el plan de estudios, la particular metodología, las funciones de los maestros, sus relaciones con los estudiantes y la organización escolar. La celebración de este cuarto centenario invita a reflexiones oportunas sobre el pasado que sirven de punto de partida para realizaciones futuras.
