What is ‘Lights, Camera, Action’?

The ‘Luces, Cámara, Acción’ film project is an educational initiative of the Spanish Embassy Education Office in the UK aimed at promoting Spanish language and culture among students from Primary to A-level. Through the captivating medium of film, this project aims to improve language skills, cultural awareness and appreciation of the rich heritage of Spanish-speaking countries. By integrating film into the curriculum, we aim to create an engaging and immersive learning experience that transcends the traditional boundaries of the classroom.

Which films will be shown?

Throughout the 2024-2025 school year, the film Los Futbolísimos will be shown.

When?

Check the dates of the screenings on the corresponding posters and in the information available on each one.

Where?

The films will be screened at the following venues:

  • British Council building located at 1 Redman Place, Stratford, London, E20 1JQ.
  • Instituto Cervantes London building located at 15-19 Devereux Ct, Temple, London WC2R 3JJ
  • Instituto Cervantes Manchester building located at 326/330 Deansgate, Campfield Avenue Arcade, M3 4FN, Manchester.

What is the timetable for the activities?

The schedule of activities will appear on the poster of each screening.

Who can attend the screening?

Come with your students!

Depending on the film, Primary or Secondary students may attend accompanied by a qualified teacher or several teachers (depending on the number of students).

How do I apply?

Registration is free of charge for schools, but places are limited.

There are several parts to the application:

  1. Fill in a form. The link to the form will appear next to the information about each screening.
  2. Once the form is closed, we will review all applications. You will receive an email from the Consejería informing you whether or not you have a place to attend the screening with your students.

Lunch

Lunch is not provided. Each person needs to bring his/her packed lunch to the event.

Lunch?

Lunch is not provided. Each person needs to bring his/her packed lunch to the event.

Application

Registration is free for schools, but places are limited. The number of places available is 60 students. The maximum number of students per school is 15.

The application consists of several parts:

  1. Fill out a form. The link to the form appears below the poster. This form will close on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
  2. Once the form closes, we will review all applications. You will receive an email from the Department informing you whether or not you have a place to attend the screening with your students.

Please note that in order for your school to be able to attend, you will need to receive a confirmation email from the Consejería.

Do you know the Instituto Cervantes Manchester Library?

The Jorge Edwards Library at Instituto Cervantes Manchester, opened in 2005, offers books and other resources for learning Spanish, reference works, film, music, Spanish and American literature, history and art. It has a special collection on the Spanish Civil War, an LGBTQ+ section and a children's area.

The library is open Monday through Thursday from 10:00 to 18:00 and Fridays from 10:00 to 14:00.

Library membership is free for IC students and has a general rate of GBP 20 per year, with 50% discounts for university students and retired or unemployed persons. The card also gives access to all materials and online resources in the Instituto Cervantes Electronic Library, including e-books, audiobooks, periodicals and databases.
