Violencia entre iguales en las escuelas andaluzas. Un estudio exploratorio utilizando el cuestio general europeo TRM

Abstract

Violence between equals in andalusian schools. An exploratory study using the general european questionnaire TMR.

The study and prevention of school violence must be done in a coordinated way. In this way, the exploration and the analysis of a phenomenon like bullying between peers must be followed by measures of educational intervention. To do this, it is necessary that the measurement instruments adequately define the problem, that they are well designed and that they analyse tha data rigorously. The general exploration questionnaire is one of the most used instruments, but the existence of a large variety of this type of questionnaire made it hard to compare the results obtained in different countries and with different samples. In the working group of the Nature and Prevention of School Bullying and Social Exclusion project (Smith and others, web: www.gold.ac.uk/tmr) we have coordinated the analysis of the previously existing general measurement instruments and produced a model questionnaire that aims to be an instrument that is highly accepted by experts and one that could be useful for all samples from European lads. The work that we present is the first study made with this instrument. A sample of Andalusian lads has been explored with this questionnaire. The results show that the problem of abuse and intimidation between peers in our schools is not very serious, although it is enough worrying to take preventive measurements, since we can affirm that approximately five per cent of our pupils are deeply affected by this phenomenon, that is to say, they are victims or agressors of their equals.

Resumen

El estudio y la prevención de la violencia escolar debe realizarse de forma coordinada. Así, la exploración y el análisis de fenómenos como el del maltrato entre iguales debe ir seguida de medidas de intervención educativa. Para ello es necesario que los instrumentos de medida definan adecuadamente el problema, estén bien diseñados y analicen los datos con rigurosidad. El cuestionario de exploración general es uno de los instrumentos más utilizados, pero la existencia de gran variedad de este tipo de cuestionarios hacía difícil comparar los resultados obtenidos en diferentes países y con diferentes tipos de muestras. Dentro del grupo de trabajo del proyecto Nature and preventión of bullying and social exclusion (Smith y otros en web: www.gold.ac.uk/tmr) hemos coordinado el análisis de los instrumentos generales de medida previamente existentes, y producido un modelo de cuestionario altamente consensuado por los expertos que podría ser útil a toda clase de muestras de chicos/as europeos. El trabajo que presentamos es el primer estudio que se realiza con este instrumento. Una muestra de chicos/as andaluces ha sido explorada con este cuestionario. Los resultados muestran que el problema del abuso y la intimidación entre iguales en nuestras escuelas no es muy grave, aunque sí lo suficientemente preocupante como para tomar medidas preventivas, ya que podemos afirmar que aproximadamente un 5% de nuestros escolares se ve severamente afectado por este fenómeno, es decir, son víctimas o agresores de sus iguales.
